English study at this level becomes more varied, engaging and analytical. Coursework often allows students to explore topics that reflect their individual interests.
Students will investigate how English is used around the world in a range of social and cultural contexts. They will explore how and why the language has evolved over time, influenced by factors such as travel, immigration, media and technology. They will also examine how language use can vary – even within the same community – depending on age, social class, profession and other social influences.
Students will study a diverse selection of texts, including plays, poetry and novels. They will explore themes such as gender and technology, and will be expected to analyse texts in greater depth – interpreting writers’ intent, recognising nuance and considering multiple readings of a text. Depending on the exam board, some students may also study how language is acquired by children and by speakers of other languages.
I have extensive experience supporting students at this level and am familiar with the course content and assessment criteria of all major exam boards.
Every lesson is tailored exactly to each pupil's needs. As well as the time taken for each one-hour lesson, I spend time preparing, assessing and giving feedback.
